The literary life of EDWARD JAMES, author, reviewer, occasional poet and former pension adviser to the government of Kyrgyzstan
I was going to give you a crime story but I have decided to put it into a competition. The entry has to be anonymous and although I don’t suppose the judges read my blog I thought it better to post something else.
So if you go to my pages you will find one entitled ‘The Red Car’. It is another of my autobiographicals, this time set a little further back than The Birthday Party. At the Birthday Party I was 8 years old and at the receiving end of a hit by a flying bomb. For The Red Car I am 4 years old (almost my earliest memory) and an ‘evacuee’ in Bedfordshire.
The piece has been broadcast on Radio 4 (with a repeat). I should also add that The Birthday Party has been published in Grafitti magazine and performed as a playlet at the studio theatre at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham. Plus Ca Change has never been published or performed except on the Writers and Artists website.
