The literary life of EDWARD JAMES, author, reviewer, occasional poet and former pension adviser to the government of Kyrgyzstan

Not in my Name/Tell us about the Peace

Time for two poems.  The first, ‘Not in my Name’, is about my experience as a ‘demo virgin’ in the anti-war march against the Iraq war.  The British attack on Basra really was codenamed Operation James.

The poem was read at the Gloucester Writers’ Network event at last year’s Cheltenham Literary Festival and subsequently published in their anthology.

The second poem, ‘Tell us about the Peace’, was inspired by a visit to my grandson’s school to read them ‘The Red Car’.  It has never been read elsewhere, except to Cheltenham Poetry Society.
