The literary life of EDWARD JAMES, author, reviewer, occasional poet and former pension adviser to the government of Kyrgyzstan
My guest author this month is Judith Starkston, whose book Hand of Fire you will find reviewed elsewhere on this blog (Book reviews:Hand of Fire). Judith has re-told the story of Briseis, the princess who was captured by Achilles in the Trojan War and who was the cause of his quarrel with king Agememnon. Re-told is perhaps the wrong word, since Homer devoted only about a dozen lines of the Iliad to Briseis, leaving Judith with an almost clear canvas to paint her story of the war from a woman’s viewpoint.
